Since childhood I was always interested in art/illustration. I would draw Yoshi, Mario and Street Fighter characters for the entertainment of my friends.
As time went on I became deeply interested in graffiti and spent countless hours in freight yards painting freights trains.
I went to community college and while taking all the art classes available I discovered Glassblowing.
Quickly became obsessed with glass and applied to and successfully got in Tyler School of Art (Temple University) where I received a Bachelors in Glassblowing. While at Tyler taking electives I became skilled in moldmaking, welding, and work with nearly all materials. Art school being super expensive, I figured I’d play into my Illustrative inclinations. I taught myself how to tattoo out of my house ( I know, I know it’s very bad, but 18 years ago there weren’t the same resources people have nowadays and very few shops around.)
After about a year or so of house tattooing I brought my tattoo portfolio to local shops and eventually got accepted to one that gave me little guidance.
I got tattooed by everyone I admired to learn as much as I could from watching them work.
After approx 9 years working for other people I finally opened Relic Tattoo studio and have been operational for 10 years.
I started to develop my own personal style and take the things I find deeply fascinating and attempt to make them interesting to others through my illustrations. The occult, the spooky, witches, magic, aliens and monsters.
Thank you for your interest in Rich Wren’s artwork
