Rich Wren

Relic Tattoo Studio Owner and FOunder

Rich Wren is the owner of Relic Tattoo Studio and an accomplished tattoo artist with over 20 years of experience. His work is immediately recognizable, characterized by striking compositions, vibrant color, and fluid linework. Aliens, demons, horror, magic, and monsters are just some of the subject matter explored in his diverse and enchanting portfolio.

Rich began tattooing part-time to support his study at Tyler School of Art in 2002. Before then, his love of illustration and graffiti led him to develop his drawing skills, but it was studying at Tyler that introduced him to a whole new mode of artmaking: sculpture. He quickly became obsessed with glassblowing and experimented in other 3-Dimensional media such as mold-making, welding, and woodworking. He continues using these methods to create his occult-influenced line of sculptures available at Writchcraft.com.

After graduation, Rich spent the next several years refining his style and learning as much as he could from the tattoo artists that inspired him before going on to open his own shop in 2010. His current clientele travel from all over the country (and sometimes, the world) to continue collecting his highly sought-after work, complete large-scale backpieces, and start full-color sleeves.

In addition to operating Relic, Rich enjoys teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, collecting vintage toys, and spending time with his pets and family.

Rich Wren

Relic Tattoo Studio Owner and FOunder

Since childhood I was always interested in art/illustration. I would draw Yoshi, Mario and Street Fighter characters for the entertainment of my friends.
As time went on I became deeply interested in graffiti and spent countless hours in freight yards painting freights trains.

I went to community college and while taking all the art classes available I discovered Glassblowing.
Quickly became obsessed with glass and applied to and successfully got in Tyler School of Art (Temple University) where I received a Bachelors in Glassblowing. While at Tyler taking electives I became skilled in moldmaking, welding, and work with nearly all materials. Art school being super expensive, I figured I’d play into my Illustrative inclinations. I taught myself how to tattoo out of my house ( I know, I know it’s very bad, but 18 years ago there weren’t the same resources people have nowadays and very few shops around.)
After about a year or so of house tattooing I brought my tattoo portfolio to local shops and eventually got accepted to one that gave me little guidance.

I got tattooed by everyone I admired to learn as much as I could from watching them work.
After approx 9 years working for other people I finally opened Relic Tattoo studio and have been operational for 10 years.

I started to develop my own personal style and take the things I find deeply fascinating and attempt to make them interesting to others through my illustrations. The occult, the spooky, witches, magic, aliens and monsters.
